Poor Processes

Processes run the business. People run the processes.

Not having clearly defined and followed processes is a recipe for underperformance across the business. At an absolute minimum the business should have:

  • work flow diagrams for key processes across all business functions
  • procedures for key tasks or steps in the process
  • standard documents for key tasks
  • policies that drive desired behaviour and meet compliance requirements
  • a version control system that houses all the above in a manner that employees can easily retrieve the required information
Good processes allow the business to have STRUCTURE, and assist greatly to minimise growing pains and maximise productivity.

It's a dynamic area because as the business grows the processes quite often need to be modified. Process mapping using software such as Smartdraw allows us to identify what's not working and why, and what needs to change.
